and moving to california and it mostly takes place in california. the real dust bowl, this area of the panhandle of oklahoma and texas and a little bit of kansas, colorado and new mexico, that was the epicenter of this nationwide drought, the epicenter of the dust bowl was this area of the worst man made ecological disaster in american history. you say wait, man made. a decade long apocalypse that not only killed your crops and moved more dirt in one day than the excavation of the panama canal and dumped dirt in chicago and stro and detroit. franklin roosevelt had oklahoma on his finger tips in the oval office. and then you started to realize who is still alive to tell this story? you needed to find the critical mass of people. we did that to find a group of people who were children and teenagers at the time who would suffer through this ten-year apocalypse. amazingly enough i think all of us after two storms we leave and get our children out of there. some stayed and figured out where that stubborn american streak of perseverance and grit and said we're going to make this happe

area, and along the coast of california, and it allows local organizations and agencies to leverage their local funds, and make those funds go even further through the application of state bond dollars. the conservancy had a great interest for a long time in improving wildlife habitat and public access to the san francisco bay here in southeast san francisco. we partnered with the bay trail, the port of san francisco, literacy for environmental justice, and many other organizations and agencies to develop the heron's head park, to build the heron's head eco center, and now to plan and construct the bike path and this really grand entrance to heron's head. it's completed a really critical gap in the san francisco bay trail which is a regional trail that circles the entire san francisco bay. it's about 300 miles of it are done of a planned 500-mile loop. for this project really fits perfectly with our vision to improve access to the san francisco bay and to the california coast, to restore wetland throughout the state and complete the trail in the bay area and i want to thank a fe

an and the counseling director at the health center in san jose california. i am here to speak on behalf of gwen spriar and the american indian alliance. it was created in the 90's to provide voice to the community in santa clara valley and started by laverne robert and provides two annual powwows and numerous fundraisers. gwen has been part of the alliance for about 15 years now. gwen is a elder and retired from the american indian district titles four, seven and nine of the indian education act. she has moved beyond the limits of her duties for the families in her district. she spends time volunteers for all community functions that the alliance puts on. the families that she serves remember her fondly and all that she did for them. she offered her talents to powwows, food booths, graduations and dinners and let's watch a video on gwen stirrer. >> i am [inaudible] known as the keepers of the western door. they're on the western side of new york and they're the biggest of the tribes. i'm the one -- i'm the one that creeks that runs through our reservation now. indian community -- there was no

in palo alto but they are primarily a southern california firm. the cost of the search includes a no cost repeat in case the search is terminated. we don't know the answer to the question that was raised and since he is not here, i tried to find it out by looking through the documents that we got from the vendors but we don't know if the person selects to leave as in this last situation, i do not believe they will do a no cost. the proposal cost for alliance is the lowest of the finalists and they have indicated that they are going to assign the founding member that has been the longest with the organization to the recruitment group so that it would contain that individual and a manager that's been there for a while, but not as long as the founding member. and it's, he wanted to make the point that it's what would be called a comprehensive or a corporate approach to the recruitment including reference checking of the candidates as part of the preliminary assessment. normally when you reference check it's after everything is short listed to the people and then you do the reference check

of the state of human trafficking in california. i talked a little bit about this at our joint meeting, but that report was issued, i'm sure that i see lieutenant jean is here, i know the department is looking at some human trafficking efforts and some collaborative work and there's a number of recommendations in there. just for the commission i think there will be some interesting things for us to look at recommendation-wise. the third thing has to do with the tragedy in connecticut. my day job is we're building a center in bayview to address the impact of adverse childhood experience and exposure to violence and trauma on children. obviously this type of trauma is in a league of its own. but one of the experts we work with is dr. victor care 81 from stanford and he shared with me and i shared with my daughter's school so i want to share with everyone, a lot of us are hearing recommendations on the today show but we benefit from the bayview area with having access to these experts. i want to share these recommendations on children exposed to violence. the first is that we should

a bit of snow in california, still a foot of snow across portions of cascades and washington and oregon we're talking close to two feet. very good news for anyone doing skiing. good news is this storm system is on the move we'll finally start to see improvement in weather conditions across portions of the west coast, seattle, down to california. christmas leave looks more tranquil. that snow will dumping snow in portions of rockies and colorado and wyoming. we'll be accumulating snowfall and eventually this storm is going to head into the center of the country. it will be a pretty strong storm and very cold air with it. so definitely we're going to be talking about snow accumulations texas panhandle, parts of arkansas and missouri and illinois. some of these countries don't see a white christmas. so we're talking about quite a bit of snow, up to six inches locally and higher amounts, a winter storm watch has been issued across the state of oklahoma. good news for anyone that wants snow in the center of the country. christmas eve, messy day out in southeast and thunderstorms ahead of tha

's department in california tried to apologize for pepper spraying a man with down syndrome by offering his family a turkey. the family said the sheriff deputy used his pepper spray on 21-year-old antonio martinez. he was walking down the street and didn't respond to the deputy's commands and then the tep deputy hit him with his baton. the sheriff department captain later apologized to the fwamaam and said the department made a mistake. i talked to the man and his sister and she explained why the family is going to push ahead with a lawsuit. >> if they did it to him, they're going to end up doing it to any guy or any girl they see on the street and they say they look suspicious. that's what they said, he looked suspicious and that's why they proceeded to stop him and he, he didn't do anything wrong. he was just walking from our house to the bakery. and he was just going to work. >> we did get a statement from the san diego county sheriff department and it said that the deputy used the pepper spray to prevent possible escape and then explained the use of force saying in part an attempt to tr
